Sale of Work

This project was the culmination of a funded residency that I was given as part of the DL5-8 programme (details below). I received an empty retail unit and funding to realise the project. Informed by my research I repositioned my role as an artist to that of a retailer and used the space as a shop to sell products sourced using typical retail methods. The funding I received as a part of the opportunity was deployed to buy unwanted artworks from artists. On agreeing a price, I asked artists to remove their name from the artworks and agree to let me attempt to resell the art in the shop through negotiation. The aim of having an artwork detached from the artist name and the reputation that went with it was to couch the artworks in a familiar consumer environment (unlike that of a gallery) and set up an experimental and subversive value proposition for a potential viewer/buyer/participant /audience/public to engage in.
